1,500 miles
362 beers
49 pubs
6 days
2 states
2 men
2 livers
0 coffee
The Background: 2 beer thirsty travelers went on a quest throughout Western Washington & NW Oregon armed with binders full of maps and website information plus livers in need of a good workout.
362 beers? Yep, but its not what you might think. Every place we went, we split the sampler of all their beers which averages about 6 ounces, so that’s 3 oz. each times 362 beers equals 1,086 ounces, or about 68 pints, a hearty 11 pints per day. Every day except Sunday the pints were spaced out over a 10-14 hour period, so it boils down to less than a pint an hour. See – not so bad.
Rick & Steve’s Brewery / Beer Rating Scale:
0-1 = Poor / Has issues / avoid
1-2 = Fair / Maybe give it a shot if it’s the only game in town
2-3 = OK / Would try again unless better choices exist
3-4 = Good / would likely try again
4-5 = Excellent / Must Try / Seek it Out
NR = Not Rated, either because we hadn’t implemented a system yet, or were too in-the-bag to take notes
Note our rating system was pretty un-scientific with little controls as we had these at various times of the day / afternoon / evening some with & without food pairings. Plus, we always did an initial tasting, leaving some beer to warm up. Many beers changed (for better & worse) when we sampled them again.
With the skyrocketing costs of hops & grain, it is likely some of these smaller breweries will go out of business, so we were fortunate to get this trip in when we did.
Below are links to each day's beer & brewery visited, plus rating & comments:
